Director TSI
Julia is a proud Torres Strait Islander who has lived and worked for her own community for 20 plus years, working in both sections of non-Government and Government. Her work experiences, past and current, demonstrate a sustained passion for social justice issues. Julia’s core values are to sustain social justice and equality for the communities of the Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area (NPA).
Julia is dedicated to ensuring communities are safe and to build capacity in supporting families to maintain an equality of lifestyle for the Torres Strait and NPA regions regardless of the remoteness of these communities. Julia is also determined to ensure all voices are heard, especially where system improvements for women and children escaping domestic and family violence are needed and when, in general, gaps have been identified and addressed.
She has been an active member of many organisations and networks within her community including members of both Lena Passi Women’s Shelter Board and Mura Kosker Sorority Board, and as a member of the Social Justice Interagency Services (SJIS). Julia has sat on numerous boards, advisory committees and reference groups representing social issues particularly Torres Strait Islanders on local, state and national levels.
